With the release of their seventh EP, ‘Fancy You’, the group became the best-selling girl group in Korea, breaking the 21-year old record set by S.E.S. “And I tentatively said… Maybe me?’” From there, work on the album began in earnest. According to Romy, the record is full of “emotional music to dance to.” Still, its 11 songs also deal with heavy subject matter including grief and identity. Romy worked with producers Fred again., Stuart Price, and xx bandmate Jamie xx for the record, which a press release describes as a “love letter” to queer clubs. Like much of The xx members’ solo releases, Mid Air is a dance album. Romy has officially branched out from The xx with Mid Air, her first-ever solo album.
